    The company’s original slogan was, “Healthcare virtually everywhere,” and its goal has been to offer on-demand healthcare for common urgent care conditions to both individuals and companies. It has also hoped to disrupt the current healthcare system by providing online care to users; the company claims that less than 5% of patients are actually redirected to in-person care after an appointment.

    In 2018, this telehealth company began offering behavioral health treatments, including counseling and psychiatry to both adults and teens. 

    The company prides itself on being flexible and friendly while continually evolving and innovating to keep up with current technology and customer needs. 4.5 million satisfied users currently access the site via computer, smartphone, or landline. 

    It strives to stay current in both technical and medical advancements.

    Is MeMD Credible?

    MeMD’s medical team consists of real doctors. Patients are never diagnosed or treated by bots. All providers are board-certified medical professionals and possess over 16 years of hands-on medical experience. They are all experienced to offer personalized treatment plans, advice, and prescribe medications.

    Certified physicians have been trained in the U.S. and have specialized care board certification. They are all licensed and credentialed. To become a MeMD experienced medical provider, a doctor must hold a bachelor’s degree as well as a medical degree or osteopathic medicine degree. To become a physician's assistant on the platform, providers must be trained, NCCPA certified, and credentialed. All PAs hold a bachelor’s degree and a physician assistant studies, health science, or medical science degree. 

    Nurse practitioners on the platform have medical training and are ANCC or AANP certified. They all hold bachelor’s degrees in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing. 

    Behavioral healthcare providers all hold master’s degrees and are accredited, licensed, and board-certified in the state where they practice. Specialty certifications include social worker, professional counselor, and marriage and family certification.

    MeMD is accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a non-profit organization that accredits and certifies healthcare companies. Receiving the NCQA seal means that the healthcare company offers a high quality of care. All such institutions must go through rigorous testing and review and are biennially reviewed for continuing quality.

    According to MeMD, “Achieving Credentialing Accreditation from NCQA demonstrates that MeMD has the systems, process, and personnel in place to conduct credentialing in accordance with the strictest quality standards.”

    MeMD is also HIPAA compliant to ensure proper disclosure of health information. Patients must provide written consent to disclose a medical record to other medical providers or family members. 

    All patient information and interactions on the MeMD website are protected by a secure socket layer (SSL) protocol (the same security used by banks). MeMD’s servers are all highly secure and are located in data centers protected by trained security guards. Servers are also protected from environmental disruptions, ensuring the site remains secure throughout power outages and other possible disruptions. 


    Healthcare Conditions Treated by MeMD  

    MeMD offers several types of health care to patients, including urgent care, men’s healthcare, women’s healthcare, talk therapy, teen talk therapy, and psychiatry. 

    Urgent care and primary care physician issues are treated by the platform 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Both men’s and women’s healthcare services are discreet and available around the clock.

    Online talk therapists are available in as little as 24 hours for adults, ages 18 and up. Teen therapy is available for minors, aged 10 to 17. Psychiatrists are on hand for talk therapy, prescriptions, and interventions.

    COVID-19 Services

    As the CDC recommends online treatment and care due to COVID-19 personal health concerns, MeMD is now offering select coronavirus medical services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including screening, treatment, and antibody testing.


    How Does MeMD Work?

    WebMD has created a platform that offers accessible, round-the-clock care for users. To get started with medical or mental health services, simply follow the below steps:

    1. Create a free account and basic patient profile, and request an appointment via video or phone call 
    2. Video chat with a doctor who will review medical history and symptoms and provide treatment options
    3. Get a personalized health plan; if necessary, your doctor will send your prescription to your local or online pharmacy

    Log on to the platform whenever you want to access and/or download your medical records. All documents are saved as PDF files, so you can easily send them to specialists or other doctors.


    MeMD Does NOT treat Some Conditions 

    MeMD offers a large list of primary care services to patients who live all over the U.S. Yet, nothing is perfect, and this platform cannot provide patient telemedicine services for certain types of medical conditions or requests. Just a few examples of patients MeMD cannot treat include anyone who requires:

    • In-person care
    • Medical emergency treatments
    • A driver’s form, sports physical form, or handicap assessment*
    • Prescriptions for narcotic pain relievers and/or other controlled substances
    • Prescriptions for emotional and mental health issues
    • Increased dosage of prescription medication
    • More than a 90-day refill of prescription medication in a six-month period
    • Prescriptions sent to Canadian pharmacies
    • Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing
    • Testing requiring a nasal or throat swab
    • Doctor’s note for not wearing a mask in public
    • Referral for physical therapy or an occupational therapist

    *Doctors may provide other types of forms (on a case-by-case basis) 

    MeMD primary care services and mental health services are age-specific. Doctors on the platform cannot provide medical or mental health services to anyone who is under the age of

    • 18 who does not have a parent or guardian present at virtual doctor visits
    • 18 and needs men’s health and women’s health services
    • 10 and needs teen therapy
    • 18 with psychiatric conditions

    Real-time healthcare providers also cannot provide services to anyone who doesn’t have a valid email account, high-speed internet connection, and/or a valid credit card for payment. Patients must also download the MeMD app for a smartphone or Chrome or Safari browsers if using a computer or laptop. Patients must also have a webcam or smartphone for video consultations. All users must enable Javascript and cookies during virtual treatment.

    If MeMD telehealth providers cannot assist you, sometimes they can still offer good health advice and/or offer suggestions on medical treatment options.


    Pricing: How Much Does MeMD Cost? 

    MeMD’s prices are based on the type of virtual urgent care appointment needed. Online medical consultations are free, and the platform provides benefits to employees of some companies. 

    The prices for all services are as follows:

    Urgent care doctor visit for each individual: $67

    Men’s health visit for each individual: $67

    Women’s health visit for each individual: $67. 

    Therapy session (50-minute session): $85  

    Therapy visit (25-minute session): $65

    Teen-therapy visit (50-minute session): $85 

    Therapy visit (25-minute session): $65

    Initial psychiatry visit (45-minute session): $229 

    Psychiatry visit (15-minute follow-up session): $99

    MeMD accepts FSA, HSA, and HRA account payments. Patients can also pay using a credit card or debit card. The platform does not take health insurance plans, but it’s always a good idea to check with your provider to see if you can be reimbursed for online healthcare services.


    What Do We Think About MeMD?

    We find MeMD to be a solid telehealthcare platform with qualified doctors that show excellent bedside manner and have more than a decade of experience. MeMD reviews mentioned reviewers loved that they didn’t need to wait to see a doctor — and didn’t need to leave their homes to do so either. 

    Reviewers also appreciated that the platform offers both physical and mental health services and that they don’t need to turn to two different platforms for treatment.
