Push Health Review

Push Health

Why We Like Them

Push Health is a platform that allows doctors and patients to connect online. Instead of offering the services itself (like most telehealth companies), Push simply provides a safe online portal for doctors to offer virtual visits with current patients. It was created to offer seamless transactions and make medical care easier for doctors, physicians assistants, nurse practitioners, and patients.  Patients do not need medical insurance to use the platform, and the services offered are priced transparently and competitively.

    Push Health Company Overview

Founded in 2013, Push Health’s mission has been to connect medical providers with patients via an easy-to-use app.

Push Health is an invitation-only telehealth service. Licensed doctors and nurse practitioners invite current patients to join the portal. After a patient is registered, doctors and patients can use the app to message, pay for services, and request prescriptions and labs. Doctors can also send patients reminders and invoices and even recommend tests and services. All prescriptions are routed to a pharmacy right through the app, and all labs are ordered from Quest Diagnostics. All prices for labs are guaranteed at the time of purchase.

The platform simply creates a seamless experience between doctors and patients. It’s accessible via an app in the Apple iPhone or Android Google Play stores. Patients can also log on to any device with internet access.

    How Does Push Health Work?

Push Health is a telemedicine platform that connects patients with healthcare providers for remote consultations, diagnosis, and treatment. The platform allows patients to connect with a healthcare provider from the comfort of their own home, eliminating the need for in-person visits.

Here's a general overview of how Push Health works:

    1. Sign up: Patients create an account on the Push Health platform, providing their personal information, medical history, and insurance information.
    2. Request a consultation: Patients can request a consultation with a healthcare provider for a specific condition or issue. They can choose from a variety of specialties, including primary care, mental health, and more.
    3. Connect with a provider: Once a request is made, patients are connected with a qualified healthcare provider who can assess their condition and provide a diagnosis and treatment plan.
    4. Consultation: The consultation takes place via video or audio call, allowing patients to discuss their symptoms and receive a diagnosis and treatment plan.
    5. Follow-up: Depending on the condition and treatment plan, the healthcare provider may schedule follow-up appointments to monitor the patient's progress.
    6. Prescription: If a prescription is needed, it can be sent electronically to the patient's preferred pharmacy.

Push Health is a convenient way for patients to receive healthcare services without having to leave their home and can be especially useful for people with mobility issues, living in remote areas or during COVID-19 pandemic when in-person visits may be limited. It's important to note that telemedicine is not appropriate for all medical conditions, so it's always best to consult with a healthcare professional to determine if it's the right option for you.

Is Push Health Right For You?

Push Health allows private practice physicians to connect with their patients online and via a smartphone app. Doctors can send secure messages to patients, video chat, connect with specialists, write prescriptions, and order labs right — all in one app on a mobile phone.

Doctors can also charge their own fees; unlike most telehealth apps, doctors still control pricing and most procedures and work with their current patients; Push Health is simply the tech that organizes all of that information.

Push Health may be right for you if you:

    • Are currently working with a doctor who has invited you onto the platform
    • Need a private, secure, and easy way to connect with your doctor

    Is Push Health Credible?

Push Health was founded by Chirag Shah, MD, and Matthew Williamson, an entrepreneur.

Dr. Shah graduated from Yale University Medical School and got his MBA from Harvard Business School and his BA from Stanford University. He was also a Baker Scholar. His residency was completed at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He is a board-certified emergency physician.

Williamson’s background is in tech; he has a BA from Rice University and previously worked with Chirag to start Access Health and Access Labs.

Push Health works with licensed, board-certified doctors, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants with a valid DEA license, NPI number, and U.S. medical license. Some doctors provide specialization qualifications for certain services.

All doctors are validated to ensure proper licensing and e-prescribing verification.

Since the platform simply connects doctors with their current patients, users don’t need to worry about verification. Doctors simply invite patients to begin using the app.

The platform uses modern software and protects all personal health data. Payments are processed via Braintree, a trusted online payment processor; Push doesn’t save any patient credit card or payment information within the system.

    Push is also HIPAA compliant.

Push Health doctors can currently treat the following conditions through the app:

    How to Use Push Health

To use Push Health, patients simply need to follow four easy steps:

    1. Get Invited by a Doctor

Unlike many telehealth platforms, patients must be invited to join Push Health by their primary care physician.

    2. Sign Up for an Account

After your doctor has sent an invite, you can sign up for an account on Push. Simply enter your name and email into the form, and click on the welcome email.

    3. Fill Out Your Medical Information

Fill out a quick questionnaire with your medical information. Your doctor may also load medical history and other information onto the platform for easy access.

    4. Request Prescriptions or Labs

Chat with your doctor via the messaging center, request prescriptions, and order labs.

If you know the name of your medication, simply click the ‘request prescription’ button in your account. Fill out your information, pay via PayPal or credit card, and wait for your provider to approve your refill. Providers generally review and approve (or deny) prescription requests within 24 hours—all doctors e-prescribe within the platform.

Prescriptions can be sent to any local pharmacy within the app. When ordering the prescriptions, simply choose your local or online pharmacy. After paying your doctor for the service, your pharmacy will be notified and fill the prescription.

To order labs, simply click the ‘order lab tests’ button. Select the lab tests you need and enter your personal and payment information into the system. Your doctor will review the request and approve or deny it. Once approved, your credit card will be charged, and your order will be processed.

Print out your lab order and bring it with you to your preferred Quest Lab location. The lab will collect your samples — you don’t need to fill out any additional forms or information.

When your lab results are in, you’ll be notified through the app. You can review all results right in the app and even comment with questions.

Push Health Does NOT treat Some Conditions

Push Health has a very specific online medical niche. It only caters to certain patients and provides a select set of services. Push health does not treat the following health conditions nor provide some services:

    • Emergency care services
    • Specialist services
    • Mental health services
    • Services for patients not invited to the platform by a doctor
    • In-person services
    • Prescriptions for controlled substances or drugs with serious side effects

How Much Does Push Health Cost?

Push Health offers complete transparency in its pricing. The platform doesn’t charge patients to use the app.

All fees on the app may vary from doctor to doctor as providers may establish and charge their own prices. Yet, some doctors don’t charge any fees, and some doctors even donate their fees.

Push does charge flat fees to use select services. All fees are displayed before the patient books a service. These fees are generally minimal and less than most health insurance copays.

Patients never need to worry about surprise bills or charges, as all charges are specified before the service or appointment.

Push takes PayPal, credit and debit cards, and HSAs.

The fees for all lab tests are calculated by region and in real-time. Patients always pay lab test fees through the app. You’ll never get a ‘surprise’ bill at a lab.

What Do We Think About Push Health?

Push Health has helped move healthcare into the 21st century. It offers local primary care physicians a platform to offer patients online visits for quick and easy services — most of which can be accessed from the comfort of home.

This online doctor simply connects patients to their current doctors, creating a seamless experience for both.

We would love to see Push Health open up its platform for new patients in the future. Since its current services are geared toward doctors, Push doesn’t accept new clients without an invitation or referral. Opening up the platform to patients whose doctors are not currently using Push would help a wider range of potential customers.

If you’re a doctor who wants to start offering online services for patients and doesn’t know where to start, contact Push Health to find out how to create a more seamless doctor/patient experience.
