    ReGain Company Overview

ReGain is an online platform that offers online counseling for couples and helps them overcome whatever obstacles they may be facing. ReGain aims to provide online couple counseling that is convenient, discreet, effective, and affordable. ReGain offers couples, or individuals (more on that later), access to fully-licensed online relationship counselors at any time or any place via a smartphone, desktop PC, laptop, or tablet.

To be honest, there doesn’t seem to be much information about ReGain online counseling on the internet. In fact, their own website does not even have the usually obligatory “About Us” page. We have been able to find out about the company because it was first started in 2016, and it is based in California. Perhaps the biggest thing separating ReGain from the rest of the competition in online relationship counseling is their online therapists' quality and the rather strict policies they have in place to ensure they use only the very best online relationship counselors.

    What does ReGain do?

Online relationship counseling. For many, this word may sound like the proverbial death knell for their relationship. But the truth is that it is actually the opposite and could be the very thing that saves it.

Whether it’s a cheating spouse, a lack of communication, growing apart, addiction, anxiety, stress, or depression, ReGain’s online therapists are on hand to provide professional, practical, and effective online counseling to help save your relationship. Every single one of ReGain’s experienced online counselors is fully licensed, board-certified, and accredited psychologists, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, or licensed professional counselors. ReGain’s services are available via their online counselors, who are independent service providers and engage directly with you and your partner.

ReGain’s mission is to help you and your partner to communicate and engage by creating, maintaining, and supporting an open line that allows all parties to communicate freely and effectively.

ReGain and their experienced online counselors can offer their expert advice to help you with just about every aspect of your relationship, including:

    • Attachment
    • Attraction
    • Chat

    • Dating

    What doesn’t ReGain do?

While ReGain and other online relationship therapy services should be considered by anyone in a relationship that needs a bit of help, it may not be the answer for everyone. Certain relationships and situations may benefit more from a more intensive in-person therapy approach.

ReGain may not be your best option if any of the following applies to your particular situation:

    • You or your partner have had thoughts of hurting you, your partners, or anyone else
    • You are under the age of 18 and are still under the care of your parent or legal guardian
    • You and/or your find yourselves in a crisis or emergency situation
    • You and/or your partner have been officially diagnosed to be suffering from a severe mental condition
    • You and/or your partner have advised undergoing psychological supervision or psychiatric care
    • You and/or your partner have been ordered by a court or other authority to undergo therapy or counseling
    • You are in a physically abusive relationship, and you feel that your safety or even life is at risk
    • You do not have ongoing access to a reliable internet connection

    How does ReGain work?

Essentially ReGain has a 3-step process:

Step 1 - Complete the questionnaire on their website

Step 2 – If you would like your partner to be involved in the therapy process, send them an invitation to join

Step 3 – Begin the therapy process

ReGain online relationship counseling is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and can be accessed using any computer, tablet, smartphone, or device with a web browser and internet connection. Once you have joined, you will be given your own private virtual therapy room. Only you, your partner, and your online therapist will have access to this room. Whenever you or your partner have a question or wish to discuss something related to your relationship, you are free to go to the room and post. As soon as your online counselor replies, you will receive a notification alerting you to the fact. You can also schedule voice or video call sessions based on your partner and your online therapist's availability.

    1. Completing the questionnaire

Unlike some other online relationship therapy services, the initial questionnaire you are asked to fill out has just the right amount of questions – they ask you to supply enough information to give your online therapist a good picture of your relationship.

The first question asks if you would like to involve your partner. You can either choose to undergo counseling as an individual or as a couple.

Next, you are asked what you would like to achieve through online counseling for couples.

You are then asked what benefits you are looking to achieve. Options include ‘improve our communication,’ ‘resolve conflicts and disagreements,’ or ‘improve our intimacy.’ You are then asked to answer a few more questions about yourself and your preferences. Your answers are then used to pair you with the most suitable online relationship counselor.

After answering all the questions, you will need to create your own private account by supplying your name (you can choose a nickname instead of using your actual name), email address, and pick a password.

    1. Inviting your partner

With ReGain, you can choose to undergo online relationship counseling either on your own or together with your partner. You can involve your partner from the time you sign up by following the prompts, or you may choose to invite them at a later point. By inviting them at a later point, you have the chance to discuss certain matters with your online therapist on your own. If you wish to invite them at a later point, all you have to do is click on the option labeled “Invite Partner.” You will then need to provide both your partner’s e-mail address and phone number. From there, your partner will receive a personalized link inviting them to join you and your online relationship therapist in your own private therapy room.

    1. Begin the online therapy process

If you choose to undergo online relationship therapy together with your partner, the two of you will share an account, allowing both of you to communicate with the online therapist whenever you wish. If either of you wants to communicate with the e-therapist in private, you can set up a live session with just you and the therapist via either a voice or video call. One drawback to ReGain online relationship counseling is that they do not offer the option of live 3-way voice or video sessions. However, you can still interact by scheduling a live voice or video call if both you and your partner are at the same location.

Most of the communication between the partners and online therapist will not be in real-time. It will consist of what is essentially an email conversation that takes place in your private therapy room. You and your partner are free to write or respond to your online therapist at any time. You will then receive a notification informing you that they have replied. You then log on to ReGain, enter your private room, read the response and reply as needed.

How often you interact with the online counselor and how fast they respond depends on you. Some members prefer frequent short sessions while others prefer to have longer and more intensive sessions that happen less often. Generally, usage patterns alter over time, depending on how the relationship is going. The e-therapist will try to accommodate your needs as best they can.

You and your partner can visit your private therapy room whenever you wish and re-read all of the previous messages from you, your partner, and your online therapist. This may help you when reflecting and recalling some of the advice and counseling you may have forgotten.

It should be noted that all written communication from sessions with both partners will be visible to both users and the online counselor. However, whatever is said or discussed in private 1-on-1 sessions is confidential.

As with all forms of therapy, it hard to gauge how long the process may last. Some may feel satisfied with what they have achieved after a few weeks, while others may prefer to make it a long-term process in the hopes of continually improving their relationship.

    How secure is Regain?

First of all, ReGain will never ask for your full name or contact details, and you and your partner are free to pick pseudonyms. You are, however, required to supply your emergency contact info. This is securely stored in the system but can be accessed by your online counselor if they believe that someone is in danger or at risk.

ReGain claims to take your privacy seriously, and that certainly seems to be the case. According to them, their website uses state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure to protect your privacy and safeguard the contents of your private therapy rooms. It is comforting to note that their confidentiality and security standards exceed what is required of them by law.

ReGain has laid out some of the specifics on exactly how they protect your privacy. These include:

    • Never having to use your full name
    • Communications between you and your online relationship counselor have safeguarded thanks to strict state and federal laws
    • ReGain have no direct contact or interaction with any insurance companies, so there is no need for any of your information to be shared, reported, or filed with them
    • There is a “Shred” option that appears next to each message you send. Clicking this option will totally remove it from your account
    • All communication between you, your partner, and e-therapist undergo 256-bit encryption
    • All ReGain’s servers are hosted an "A Grade" facility, which promises the highest levels of security and protection
    • ReGain follows best practices and provides world-class safety and encryption thanks to their use of an SSL browsing encryption system
    • All of ReGain’s databases are scrambled and encrypted so that if they are ever stolen, they will be totally useless to the thieves

Who are the therapists at ReGain?

As we mentioned earlier, all of the online therapists working through ReGain online couple counseling are fully trained, have been accredited by their state board, and have a Master’s degree or Doctorate in their particular field. They also boast at least 3 years and over 2,000 hours of practical experience. All of this ensures that you will receive the same high degree of professionalism from your online relationship counselor that you would expect from an in-person therapist.
