Nortriptyline (Generic Pamelor)
Nortriptyline (Generic Pamelor)
Nortriptyline is a preventive medication for migraines that reduces migraine frequency. Clinical studies have shown that nortriptyline can potentially significantly reduce the frequency of migraine attacks in adults over the age of 18. They are effective against migraines because they balance levels of the neurotransmitters responsible for causing migraines. This drug is more commonly used to treat those suffering from depression, however, the FDA has approved it for the treatment of migraines in the last few years. Nortriptyline is often sold under the brand name Pamelor® and is available as either a pill or in liquid form. It should not be used by anyone under the age of 18.
