Metoprolol is a preventive medication for migraines that reduces migraine frequency. It is classed as a beta-blocker and is often prescribed as a treatment against migraines. This medication is part of a category of medications known as oral migraine prevention medications (OMPMs). OMPMs are drugs that were first created to treat other conditions but were found to be effective in preventing migraines. The American Academy of Neurology has rated Metoprolol as a “level A” drug in migraine prevention. Class A drugs are regarded as being highly effective. It should not be used by anyone under the age of 18. Metoprolol is available only with your doctor's prescription.
