Bayer, the manufacturer of the popular brand of birth control pills called Yasmin, states the following in terms of the uses, treatments, and symptoms for this medication:

Syeda, commonly referred to as “the pill”, is a form of birth control. It is a combination of two hormones prevents pregnancy in two ways.

Syeda contains two hormones found in the female body - an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (drospirenone). Syeda prevents pregnancy by not allowing the body to release an egg during the menstrual cycle. It also thickens the viscosity of the vaginal fluid, preventing the sperm from reaching the egg and alters the lining of the womb so that if an egg is fertilized, it will not be able to attach itself to the womb and will pass through the body. Syeda is also known to make periods more regular, less painful, decrease blood flow during the period and lower the chances of ovarian cysts.
