About Yo

Yo Home Sperm Test Kit Overview

Did you know that more than 48 million couples worldwide face infertility and are unable to conceive a child? And according to NCBI, in 20 to 30% of those cases, men are the responsible party (Insert sad face emoji here).

Yo was founded with the goal in mind that it shouldn’t be a guessing game when it comes to your fertility and that the journey to pregnancy starts with love and sperm quality.

In the mid-2000s when CEO and Co-Owner, Marcia Deutsch realized that many men were overly hesitant to get their sperm tested in a clinical setting. She and her husband, Gabe (Oo-owner and board chair), set out to develop a more approachable way for men to feel comfortable getting tested. In 2016 they came up with the first FDA-cleared smartphone-based solution for testing motile sperm in the privacy of your home.

Yo makes it quick and easy to see how your swimmers stand up or if they’re dead in the water.

How Does Yo Work?

Yo is an at-home test kit that measures one thing, your sperm’s motility, which is the movement and swimming of sperm. Motility is one of the most critical pieces of getting pregnant because if your swimmers aren’t healthy enough to race to the egg, your chances of conceiving a baby are very low.

The Yo kit and app are all you need to test your moving sperm. Well, you will need a smartphone or a computer to connect to the app, as well as your sample, but you get the gist.

Yo sperm kit works in three super-simple steps:

1 - Order Your Kit

Visit yospermtest.com to order your two-test kit online. Yo prides themselves on ultimate privacy, so your gear will always arrive in discreet packaging.

2 - Download and Test

The Yo app is available from the app store if you’re an iOS user or from Google Play if you’re an Android user. The test kit comes with easy-to-read instructions (they’re also available on the app), and once you’ve read the do’s and don’ts of how to collect your sample, you’ll then want to produce some semen into the provided plastic cup. Yo reviewers love that they were able to do everything from “production” to testing in the comfort of their homes. Gone are the days of going to an awkward fertility appointment where you do your business in one of those cream-colored rooms with sticky magazines. When you’re ready, you’ll test your motile sperm using the provided Yo scanner that either attaches neatly to the top of your phone or is connected to your computer.

3 - Get The Results

The scanner will evaluate the health of your moving sperm, and after ten minutes, you’ll get a reading of your little guys -- whether they’re normal or abnormal. One of the coolest things about this whole process is that you will actually get to see your sperm up up-close and personal, as the scanner provides you with a live feed of exactly what’s going on with those tiny homies. Feel free to say, “What’s up, guys?”

Your test results aren’t only fast and automatic, but they’re over 97% accurate!

Is Yo Legit?

Yo was founded by a husband and wife team that strives to provide fast and easy sperm motility results, but it’s also backed by Dr. Kenan Omurtag, a reproductive specialist at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Omurtag has spent many years talking with men and couples about their fertility issues, and like Marcia and Gabe, he also believes that male fertility is something that every man should know where his sperm health stands. Yo isn’t the perfect replacement for an in-person fertility appointment, but it is a great way to screen yourself on your own time without stepping foot in a clinic.

Yo is shipped in a plain box directly to your doorstep, and all results are stored in the Yo archive and follow all HIPPA regulations to protect your privacy. Yo is the child company of Medical Electronic Systems and has been producing commercial-grade semen analyzers for more than 20 years, so we think it’s safe to say that they are credible and know a thing or two about sperm testing.

What Do We Think of Yo?

At-home testing makes things easy, convenient, and completely private. Yo is the first FDA-cleared smartphone-based solution for testing motile (moving) sperm. We don’t think it can get any easier than this; plus, you get a chance to see exactly what’s going on with your sperm up-close and personal. How cool is that?!

Male fertility is a timeless pop culture gag that has long depicted men as not taking their fertility seriously when in reality, about one in 20 men struggle with fertility issues. If you’re thinking about starting a family, are having a hard time conceiving, or you’re just curious about the quality of your sperm, Yo test kits could be the ticket.
